Recommendations

Here you can read some recommendations from people we have worked with.

Kathinka Fürst and Li Tieqiao worked for Nordisk Film & TV on the children & youth tv-series "Ping-Pong" that was produced in Norway and China in 2008.They translated part of the script ( 3,5 episode times 25 minutes) into Chinese. The translation was done to everybody's satisfaction and was used both as a document for the Shooting Application to The State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT) in China and as a working document for Chinese crew and actors during the shooting period. We can highly recommend their expertise in this field.

During the years 2004-5 I had the fortunate pleasure to cooperate with Kathinka Fürst (KF). To mark the 50th year of diplomatic relations between Norway and China, it was decided to host a grand Chinese archaeological exhibition in the three main archaeological museums in Norway; "China through a looking-glass: The Reign of Emperor Jing Di". Former scientific relations were to be expanded onto the future, and the dissipation of cultural understanding across the world was to be furthered, by way of an exhibition, breaking new grounds in terms of both the technical presentation and the collaborative effort behind the total creation of the event. To facilitate cross-cultural activities KF came into the project, first as a much needed translator during complex initial negotiations regarding loan conditions. Rather soon she also entered the team as the indispensable key holder regarding numerous aspects of this big project. Her equally high demand in language, cultural understanding, entrepreneurship and good spirit were often to be sought for, during this long project. For any future partner to consider the assistance of KF in related projects I hereby congratulate you with the perfect choice of assistance.

On my first tour in China, in 2004, my group Poing (w/accordionist Frode Haltli and double bass player Håkon Thelin) were invited by the Norwegian embassy to come to Beijing. Even though they are one of the few embassies with a history with very skilled cultural attachés, they were dependent on help from somebody with a broad knowledge of both the artistic and the practical/logistic side of the contemporary Chinese music scene, to be able to book in a Norwegian artist on short notice on important and popular venues. This person was, and still is Li Tieqiao. In this context I define contemporary music as all music that has some kind of modern edge to it, from pop via underground heavy metal to experimental and academic expressions. Himself being a well respected, original and skilled musician in many different musical expressions, he also have an insight that one will never have if standing outside the performative role.

In addition to being an utterly open, friendly, sympathic and service minded person, Li Tieqiao has always surprised me and my musical colleagues by introducing us not only to the most up to date venues, but also top notch musicians to us for collaborations.Such as musicians from Chinese opera, Mongolian folkloristic tradition, punk and improvised jazz. His detailed knowledge of many of the most important places in China (for example Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou) and contacts on many levels makes him almost irreplaceable as an associate or help when doing artistic business in China.

I have now been touring in China seven times and have been enjoying his professional help in one way or another every time. In addition to the above mentioned I can mention that he can help with language interpretation and translation between Chinese and English, hotel bookings and discounts, showing the best offers on restaurants and other leisure, pressing of cd's on short notice, relevant contacts in the press, and much more. His stay and travels in Europe and Norway has made him an important bridge builder between these countries and China.

The Norwegian National Broadcasting (NRK) had the pleasure of working with Kathinka Fürst during the production of the music documentary "Beijing Rock City" from Beijing in October 2005. She had the responsibility of making contact and arrange meetings with all our sources in China and worked with us as a guide and translator during the week we were in Beijing. Furthermore she translated all our interviews to Norwegian in the editing period, and had the responsibility of the final translation of the documentary before it was aired on NRK in 2006. We could not have done this project without her excellent knowledge of the Chinese language and culture. KathinkaFürst is highly professional in her work in addition to being a pleasant person to be around. I can strongly recommend working with her.

In 2005, Kathinka Fürst assisted HivNorway in a project to develop a teaching programme for teachers on hiv/aids, based on experiences gathered by the youth branch of Norwegian Red Cross and Norwegian Football Society. Schools in the Hunan province were identified as national focal points and centre for development of local training material. Kathinka was hired because of her in-depth knowledge of Chinese language and society. She helped us in liaising with relevant local and province authorities in an efficient and smooth manner. We were very satisfied with our collaboration with Kathinka.
